Crowdcast

The main curated programme of the EUPC Online will be taking place on Crowdcast, a live video platform for webinars, Q&As, courses, concerts and online conferences.

There is a reference guide for attendees of Crowdcast events here. It can help you learn how to join and engage in Crowdcast events. We highly recommend that you follow the instructions and set up your profile – this will help you interact better during the event. Please include a profile photo if you can, and your full name, along with details of where in the world you are and what you’re involved in.

Crowdcast has a range of interactive elements including polls, Q&As and the chat function. We will be encouraging attendees to get involved through all of these at points during the event.

The reference guide also helps you navigate the phone app and on how to view recordings after the event. We recommend use of Google Chrome or Firefox as a browser. Viewing on desktop/laptop versions has the best results in our experience.

A second reference guide is available that helps with technical requirements and troubleshooting this element. We recognise that many people within permaculture live in rural areas with limited bandwidth. This can sometimes interrupt broadcasts but there are a number of ways to better ensure you have a good connection on the day. Check this guide here.

Zoom

Zoom will be used for EUPN Strategic Meetings and for the Open Space section of the programme. Information on how to register for Zoom events will follow as well as tips for taking part.

As the EUPC is an international event, it is helpful to have some common cultural rules for its use. Below is a link to a useful film that was made by the Permaculture Association (Britain) for its Educator Gathering in 2021 explaining best practice use of Zoom with an eye to inclusivity and cultural differences, as well as useful technical support.

Kumospace

Kumospace is a fairly new tool which we are learning ourselves as we design how best to use it. We have, though, picked up a few tips for you. The first is that we recommend use of Google Chrome for Kumospace. This is also recommended by the team there.

One advantage of Google Chrome is that you can mute an individual browser tab. Just right-click the tab and select ‘Mute Site’. If you are in both Kumospace and participating in a session on Crowdcast or Zoom, this feature can be useful as to prevent audio clash, you will need to mute one of the tabs/windows or else wear headphones so that what you are listening to does not affect the other window/tab.
